Pete, those snails look "disturbing" ....
Did you cut a "ambiguous" part off of "Lady Gaga", and thence grow it in a Petri Dish for retail sale in the aquarium trade?

See all this kind of stuff was completely new to me not too long ago.
There is something about being near 50 years old and rediscovering the Wonder of Life you had had as a child!

2001 ..
I read about Apple Snails but had never seen one. So I order some from a very nice lady in Florida. She sent me these tennis ball sized creatures..
that freaked me out and gave me nightmares.~

That's when snails went to the top of my list of cool @ss freaky creepy crawlies

Superb photography!! Heck! I can't even get $7.99 out of the little guys in our shop! LOL!! I think they are really neat. Not many takers though... Either these or the "orange' rabbits in the same tank lay'ed a clutch of pink / coral colored eggs above the water line. I thought they were livebearers? " Someone" does well on his nerites & assassins as well! I don't even want to think about the trapdoors!! Good for you!!

Does any one in Illinois maintain Marissa, spell? or another large one called "red egg" snail? This one was popular from Fl. before the ban. Seemed to be hardier as well. My email, roeaquarium@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Phil Roe

Those snails are super awesome. I got two awhile back and they bred like crazy(i did nothing special for them). One word of advice they will take down Vallisneria like little lawnmowers, i have no idea how they do with other rooted plants. All i know is 2 snails + 14 vals + 8 hours = 14 dead plants.
