I have a Grandson wanting Papaw to put together an aquarium. Papaw does not know much about doing this. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Our tank will be freshwater and any shade of blue in a fish is required. As for plants, Mamaw wants "fern like" plants and some wood.

Welcome!! I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but you could get java fern that can be attached to driftwood or some already growing on driftwood. For blue, it depends on what you want but guppies, endlers, and platies all come in a blue variety or a variety with blue in it. I'm sure someone will have many other ideas for you but this is just a start. Good luck!!
You can also get hornwort which would work great as cover for the fry if you go with any of the above fish.
Neon tetras have blue in them and would work as well.
