Actually, I net sailfin mollies all the time in soft water canals and small lakes. Even in dark tannin filled bodies of water. It would be, however, detrimental to take mollies that are from hard water and put them in soft water. So your point is well taken. Likewise, there is no reason to salt mollies that have never been exposed to salt.

Do you know of any decent spots in/near Miami? I will be going down there for vacation in August. I'll be collecting natives as well as exotics, but I would love to find some mollies in fresh water that I don't have to acclimate to fresh.
