Thread: Just accepted my first money order request

Just accepted my first money order request

I've never said yes to a request from a potential buyer to pay by money order, partly just because all who asked before were 0/0's and that just made me nervous. Also I guess I should note I've luckily never had someone wait to ask until after they won an auction. But this week someone with perfect feedback and a decent number of them wrote a very polite email asking if I would take a money order. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. --I know there are people out there who don't use debit/credit cards simply because they worry about identity theft, not because they themselves are any kind of scammer. And I figured, if a money order is anybody's risk, it's theirs not mine. This person and I have a clear written agreement that I'm not sending the box until the money order clears. So anyway, they won the fish they wanted, I made and sent them a Paypal invoice just the same as always, just so we have an itemized document in writing. They emailed the same day, saying they got the money order and mailed it.
I have zero Spidey Sense that anything is going to go wrong with this transaction, other than having to wait a little longer for payment--then again, assuming the envelope reaches me in a few days, it would be shorter than some online payers who put it off for days.
My question is, ARE THERE any concerns with accepting a money order, as long as they're not asking for shipment before you receive and cash the money order?
