Air pumps, sponge filters, and refinishing wood floors

No idea if anyone will see this, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm having the dining room floor refinished this week. One tank running in the next room, my 75 gallon. The tank has two HOB filters and two sponge filters (air driven).

My question is: would it be better to shut the air pump off (and leave the HOBs running) during the stage where the house stinks of Poly? Would the bio-filter be ok for a few days without water/air movement, or am I asking for a crash?

Back story on the concern: I had 30 tanks set up in my basement years ago, all run on one large air pump with sponge filters, and my oil furnace blew. Oil tinged water on the floor and that lovely oil fume in the air. By the time I found it I had lost most of my fishes, assumingly from the polluted air being pumped through the water and filters. I'd rather not have that happen again.

Thanks for any help you can lend.

    Smiles, marli
