    Reading about it and seeing the effects in the form of abandoned rotting structures doesn’t do much more than help you picture something in your mind. About 10 years ago I met a guy from the area. He grew up near Shawnee as a boy during the eviction process. In passing conversation, I mentioned the term National Park Service and what the mere mention did to him left me shaken for some time. I saw the issue in a totally different light since that day.

    Well at least that plaque will serve as a reminder and may pique more than one person’s curiosity about that sad day. Thanks for passing that picture along.

    Local historical societies are just an incredible resource if you have an interest in micro-histories like this. Right down to photographs that may or may not be found in a google search. Imagine that!
