Can i use a 55gallon plastic container as a fish tank for an oscar?
this is a nontoxic container it has had nothing in it before its heatproof. its pretty thick. i found some led lights i can hang over it. im going to use a filter.
its just gonna be till i can get a good quality tank.

What is the size and shape of the container and was it intended for holding liquids? I modified 55 gallon drums for my tubs cutting the sides and leaving support bands. even doing so and only having about 40g of water in it the barrles have begone to buckle.
My biggest concern is the container holding the pressure of the water. From the fish standpoint should be fine.

If it's not "food grade" you may have issues with the plastic going brittle and failing over time. Many plastics degrade when exposed to light and heat.
For a short period of time it should probably be OK though.

Is it a chemical holding tank. Heat proof plastic is pretty rare, are you sure its plastic? I had 2 oscars in a 55 gal and they outgew it pretty quick.

I'm pretty sure this was posted in jest.
Note the link, it is for a Yahoo Answers posting asking that question.
Seems most of the responses were similar to these, plus a few that were funny.
