I used the “Buy It Now” option on an Aquabid auction earlier. The post said the auction was for the exact fish in the pics and they looked great. The seller did have a few negative reviews out of 150, but those were all for live plants.
I knew the fish would sell super fast, so I acted fast. Before paying, while waiting for a reply about shipping, I was researching the seller.
I found his fish business Facebook page and discovered that in 2012, he had posted to FB the exact pictures from Aquabid. The picture was even flipped vertically, probably in an attempt to thwart reverse image searches.
I emailed him to ask for exact pictures of the fish, and like his listing stated, he said those pictures are of the exact fish. I then told him about my Facebook find, he blamed it on his camera uploading the wrong pics and that he would get back to me tonight.
I’m savvy enough to not fall for this scam, but here’s my dilemma....
He has several other listings for similar fish, some of which I also saw old pics of on FB, and other people are busy bidding and Buy Now-ing. I don’t know what to do about all the other victims while I sort this out and report it all to Aquabid! It has only been a few hours, so on the off chance that this is not a scam, I don’t want to report it quite yet.
Part of me is thinking “if they’re not smart enough to figure out they’re getting scammed, let it be a lesson to them and it’s none of my business”, but I’m sure you all will disagree with that 😂
