  • I’m being scammed

I used the “Buy It Now” option on an Aquabid auction earlier. The post said the auction was for the exact fish in the pics and they looked great. The seller did have a few negative reviews out of 150, but those were all for live plants.
I knew the fish would sell super fast, so I acted fast. Before paying, while waiting for a reply about shipping, I was researching the seller.
I found his fish business Facebook page and discovered that in 2012, he had posted to FB the exact pictures from Aquabid. The picture was even flipped vertically, probably in an attempt to thwart reverse image searches.
I emailed him to ask for exact pictures of the fish, and like his listing stated, he said those pictures are of the exact fish. I then told him about my Facebook find, he blamed it on his camera uploading the wrong pics and that he would get back to me tonight.
I’m savvy enough to not fall for this scam, but here’s my dilemma....
He has several other listings for similar fish, some of which I also saw old pics of on FB, and other people are busy bidding and Buy Now-ing. I don’t know what to do about all the other victims while I sort this out and report it all to Aquabid! It has only been a few hours, so on the off chance that this is not a scam, I don’t want to report it quite yet.
Part of me is thinking “if they’re not smart enough to figure out they’re getting scammed, let it be a lesson to them and it’s none of my business”, but I’m sure you all will disagree with that 😂

Oh, and the FB page with all the old pictures has just been deleted, but I do have screenshots!

Get Mark advised and he should take action if it's required.

I hope Fishfirst found this not to be a scam but if it was yes please add the sellers name.

It’s been very frustrating. He never sent me updated pictures, so I reported him. He accused me of sending “nasty” emails and harassing him. I forwarded all communications to the admin, so it’s clear that none of that ever happened.
He then accused me of breach of sale because I never sent him a payment...well of course I never sent payment, he was trying to dupe me!
I’m not even THAT upset about all that, he never got my money and he can say whatever he wants about me, it doesn’t matter. What does matter, and really annoys me, is that he still has listings up for fish that many other people are bidding on 😡😡

Glad you didn't get beat out of any $$ and I'm sure the admins will do what's needed.

What was the purpose of posting that? To stir up more drama than needed and have the seller retaliate against me? I followed the steps I needed to take (report and feedback). That was unnecessary.

I wondered the same thing, but whatever.

So it would be best to let the scam go on ?

As per Aquabid policy, the seller was reported and feedback was left. You posting that does not solve anything. You’re now just stirring unnecessarily stirring things up.

Boom, gone, now no one knows who the scammer is , that is probably best, now more people can get scammed, I yield my time

Perfect, thanks! Anyone who would need know will see the feedback. They will not come to a random forum.
