I am looking to setup a tank rack system in the basement and eventually I want to go to auto water changing. I want to keep it simple so a 2 part system is what I am thinking about.
On the drain system, I want to use a "sump pump" type design. To keep the pump from accidentally draining the entire tank should the float sensor break or hang (not sure I will use an actual float), I want the inlet side to draw from a inlet tube vs just a grated intake on the housing. This way I can run a tube up to the minimum water level I want in the tanks. Should the pump get stuck on it will run out of water to draw from. The pump needs to be in the bottom of the tank so as to stay primed with head pressure. Does anyone know of small submersible pumps that let you put tubing on both the inlet and outlet sides? These would be going in 55 gallon tanks so I don't want them to be too large.
