My Father-in-law had a stroke about a month ago. His right side was weak, He was hospitalized for a few days and sent to rehab. He fell at least 5 times the first week he was there. 2 mornings in a row they called us at 4:45 to inform us they found him on the floor. After the 2nd time they asked permission to allow him to sleep on the floor. Really, the floor? No bed alarms, no railing, no cameras, apparently no supervision. My wife said "No" to sleeping on the floor. He is 93! She asked if they could put mats down by the bed. They said no it's a safety hazard.

Low and behold a little later we were told he had tested Positive for Covid with the quick test and would have to be transferred to a different facility. No symptoms, now in quarantine, limited rehab.
He had been making improvements with the rehab, now he is not doing as well. Wife is very stressed over the whole situation, She is his POA. She has 3 sisters that feel their part in life is to tell her what she needs to do. My wife works full time and is gone from sunup to sundown. All her sisters are retired. Go Figure.

Just be thankful he wasn't in New York. But to me after we had my mother in one they are all basically the same, they want the $$$ but nothing else.

Without insurance the facility wants $10,000 a month. Times that 100 patients it's a goldmine. You think they could afford cameras. I hate to say every time I saw a "nurse"at their desk with the computer on they are texting on their phone and get a little agitated when you ask a question.

EXACTLY! They stand at attention whenever a "paying family" is there to see a loved one, but don't be fooled they could give an EF less when they think you're not looking.

Just got a call from the facility. They transferred him to the emergency room at the hospital. His oxygen level had dropped. His heart had stopped on the way, paramedics got it going again broke 2 ribs and punctured a lung. He has a DNR. The hospital called and wanted to know if they should resuscitate if he needed it again. We went to the hospital, my wife was allowed to go in with hazmat gown to say her goodbyes. He was on a ventilator for a short period of time. He died 28 minutes after the ventilator was removed. He is Finally at peace.

The crematory is backed up. Wonder why? Can't schedule services until we have the remains. The cemetery is backed up. Only 3 services a day Monday thru Friday. Saturday service is $250 more. The hospitals are raking it in. $39,000 taxpayer money for maybe 4 hours on a ventilator with covid which we still don't believe he had. My phlebotomist that takes my donation every 8 weeks informed me on Saturday during my donation one of the local "care" centers had its dementia patients sleeping on mats on the floor. Most of the centers have one "nurse" per 12 patients on a 12 hour shift feeding, bathing, medicating and checking vitals. No cameras, bed alarms, or bed rails. Wow I hope I die before I get there.
